We are still in awe of the amazing honor we received being selected as @commercelex 2024 Non-Profit Community Impact Award recipient this year! It was an amazing week celebrating small businesses across Lexington, from a meet and greet panel at @46_solutions , visiting our offices for a Facebook Live event and hosting a phenomenal luncheon to highlight the awards recipients, Commerce Lex went all out! It was wonderful meeting with folks in our business community and sharing the stories of our kids and volunteers who might not always get the recognition or their voices heard. Our program wouldn’t be possible without the families, volunteers, donors, staff and board members who all work together to fulfill the mission of empowering young kids. Every day is a grind and we are constantly reminded of the importance of what we do and how Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass truly can change lives for the better. As we were leaving the awards luncheon, we were stopped by two individuals who were working at the Central Bank Center clearing tables. With big smiles they introduced themselves, one as a parent with two kids in our program. She shared that the event that we partnered with @ukathletics was the most fun her kids had ever had. She shared how much she loved BBBS of the Bluegrass and how grateful she was for the program. The other gentleman turned to us as we were leaving and with a tender voice said, “Big Brothers Big Sisters saved my life.” With a heartfelt message he shared that he still talks to his big brother and he was in the BBBS of the Bluegrass program for 10 years. He loved it so much and credits it for setting his life in a positive direction that he recommended his niece join as well (she is currently enrolled as a little sister). Out of all the awards, smiles, hugs and celebrating we did that week- hearing from the people and families that our program serves and how grateful they are for BBBS- that’s what is truly worth celebrating. Thank you! 🙏🏻💚

And what does that mean exactly? • it means that our local kids, Lexington Kids, Central Kentucky kids, have a positive role model checking in on them. • We create relationships between a child and a mentor that are supportive and gives them a positive and caring adult to look up to. • Kids are exposed to new experiences and encouraged to try to things. • Kids receiving positive encouragement are empowered to do better in school and make better decisions. • Kids have unlimited potential and need to be reminded that they are worthy of doing great things. • We’re here to support families. Over 70% of the kids in our program are single parent households. We all know it takes a village, which is why we provide extra care during enrolling our volunteers to check backgrounds and provide training and support so that we can give everyone peace of mind knowing that each child is in safe hands. • We call our mentors Big Brothers and Big Sisters because it’s more than a mentorship. 💚 Every kid deserves someone to look out for them, to celebrate with, to go through tough times with and to allow them to just be a kid!
