Matched for nearly two years, Koston and Cory have built a strong bond through consistent time together. Koston joined the program seeking a mentor to help him develop coping skills related to having an absent father and to provide support after overcoming a history of trauma. Cory, driven to make a positive impact, stepped into the role with dedication. Their activities range from playing outside and rollerblading to attending Koston’s soccer games and celebrating milestones like his 5th-grade graduation. Despite occasional schedule challenges, Cory stays connected with Koston’s family and ensures their time together is meaningful.
Cory values his role as a mentor and describes the experience as both fun and rewarding. He treasures the relationship he’s built with Koston and his family, noting their “strong bond” and mutual appreciation. Cory looks forward to maintaining their connection well into Koston’s future, emphasizing the lasting impact of their mentorship.
For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.
